LTA CLUBMARK STATUS
Gavin Kelly reports: We are the first club in the area to achieve Clubmark status and we shall be organising a presentation and photo opportunity soon. This is good publicity for the Club as it is recognition of the good organisation and structures of our club.
SHOW CONSIDERATION TO OUR NEIGHBOURS
Club members are reminded that several homes are adjacent to the tennis courts and are asked to show consideration to our neighbours at all times. There have been instances when this has not been the case.
STAMFORD CLUB TOURNAMENTS
Over the last couple of months numerous matches have been played and these culminated in the Ladies’ Finals being played on 26th September, where Emily John-Davis successfully defended her title as Ladies Champion by beating Lucy Watts 6-3, 6-1. The Ladies’ Doubles Champions were once again Kim Pallister & Penny Cooper who also retained their title with a hard fought win over Emily John-Davis and Rachael Prentice. Congratulations!
The Men’s Finals are taking place this Sunday (10th Oct), where our defending champion Dominic Higgs is playing a previous winner Nick Crowson. The match will start at 12 noon for anyone interested in watching. It will then be followed by the Men’s Doubles where Nick Crowson and Martin Trawford are taking on first time finalists Shay Ginat and Warren Thomas.
PROBLEMS WITH BB GUNS. PARENTS PLEASE HELP
Some children have been playing with BB guns on court and the Club wishes this practice to stop. They leave the “shot” all over the place and they are quite dangerous as they cause people to slip if there is a bunch of shot together. On one social session recently three players fell over.
The shot will not brush up off the court, so they have to be picked up by hand.
We ask parents to ensure that this practice does not continue.
COACHING
The comprehensive coaching programme for adults and youngsters for the period from 1st November to 11th December is attached to this newsletter.
BOX LEAGUES
New this winter!
Singles and Doubles Box Leagues
Missing your match play now that we are coming into the winter season?
Looking for some ‘friendly’ competition through the winter?
Ready to start playing matches in a friendly environment?
Entries are open to ALL!
The format is very simple. Players will be put into small divisions of 4 players. A block runs for approximately 6 weeks and during that time players must arrange to play all the other players in their division. At the end of each block there will be promotion, relegation and swap-over, depending upon the results within that division. This should mean that players will not face the same opponents in two consecutive blocks. As with most club competitions, the more players who enter, the better the divisions will run. Please have a go!
Signup sheets for both the singles and the doubles can be found in the clubhouse or you can ring, text or email Carole Wilson on 07939 095713 or c.wilson4040@btinternet.com
If you can’t find a doubles partner please enter anyway, and I’ll try to find you a partner!
I’d like to get the first block running by the 1st of November so please don’t delay, signup today!
Any questions please contact Carole, details as above.

STAMFORD TENNIS CLUB GOLF
The 5th STC Golf competition was played at Toft on 1st October 2010. Wet weather could not dampen the enthusiasm of the 13 members who took part in the event.
Longest drive was hit by Richard Wilson.
The afternoon session of Texas scramble was won by the team of Maureen Paulson, Richard Wilson and John Baxter.
The R.R Trophy and prize money was won by Mike Pare who is in good form with a score of 34. He also won the prize for the shot nearest to the pin.
Mike Paulson was a close contender for the Trophy and finished in second place with a score of 32. Mark Pallister finished in third place with a score of 31.
Next year we are planning to play at Burghley Park Golf Course. Sincere thanks to R 2 R Tennis for sponsoring the Prize money for the Winner. Special thanks also to Mike Paulson who organised the order of play and sorted out the Score Cards
TEAM REPORTS
We have had yet another very successful season. Significantly more promotion spots than relegations spots. Further reports will hopefully appear in future e-bulletins.
PETERBOROUGH & DISTRICT LEAGUE
It must be a record to have had three teams in the first division and two more in the second. It was a hard ask, and our C team will be relegated from division 1 and the D team probably from division 2. Our A team failed to win division 1 by just one point: Esporta A 141 – Stamford A 140. Our B team was a comfortable fourth out of eight, also in division 1. Stamford E finished fourth in division 2 and Stamford D seventh. Our F team comfortably avoided promotion from division 4 to division 3 – we did not want to be promoted.
MENS A TEAM
Nick Crowson writes: With 12 wins from 14 matches we finished second (again) in the first division, one point behind Esporta who call on players from a wide area. I think we can lay claim to having the strongest local club team. With a good showing from the B team once again we can certainly claim to have the largest pool of first division players of any club, which is surely, cause for celebration!! Our team remains unchanged from previous years so many thanks to my team as always for their commitment -Justin Boughey, Ralph Clarke, Dominic Higgs, Mark Pallister, Kim Renwick, Alex Smith, Marc Sumner, and Martin Trawford.
Nostradamus prediction for 2011 – Second in league.
MEN’S E TEAM
The team started well and managed to bank points from the early matches under the leadership of Ian Moss. Ian was tempted to abandon the team with a job offer to good to refuse, so the team completed the matches with mixed fortunes but achieved the objectives of avoiding both relegation and the easier objective of avoiding promotion. Seventeen players in total were used through the season to fulfil the fixtures but once again particular thanks to the Owen contingent.
HUNTS & PETERBOROUGH LEAGUE
In the Men’s league our A team came fourth in division 1 and the B team won division 3. In the Ladies’ league our A team came fourth in division 1, our B team second in division 3, our C team eighth in the same division and our D team seventh in division 4. In the Mixed league our A team came third in division 1, our B team topped division 2 and our C team topped division 4.
MEN’S A TEAM
Another season of mixed success, the inevitable losses to Esporta and Huntingdon happened and much as there were some convincing wins against RAF Brampton, Needingworth and Buckden B. This left us to battle it out with St Neots and Buckden A for 3rd, 4th or 5th and we ended up a satisfactory 4th following draws against both of them.
LADIES B TEAM
Captain: Susie Archer, Felicity & Isobel Chedd, Imogen Huxley, Stephanie Uszkurat, Helen Warner, Suzanne Whalley
Susie writes: We finished second in Division 3 with a respectable 16 points only one point behind Longthorpe A. We won 5, drew one and lost one. It was a great team effort and special thanks to our Ladies B team for playing so well. Thanks also to Kim Pallister, Emily John-Davis and Rachel Prentice from our Ladies A team who stepped in when we were struggling with holiday commitments. Looking forward to next season and playing in Divison 2!
LADIES C and D TEAMS
Maggie Knight writes: Both the ladies C and D teams have enjoyed an interesting and challenging season, with several ladies playing league tennis for the first time in the D team this year, under the captaincy of Helen Britton.
Thanks to C team: Eileen Pare, Maureen Paulson, Jayne Rolands, Viv Wilson, Nicola Clough, Carol Dilks and Clare Savage.
Thanks to D team: Helen Britton, Belinda Smith, Jeannie Dykes, Ruth Livingstone, Penny Waite, Sarah Babbs, Amanda Wheeler, Deborah Hewson, Sally Treanor, Jenny Bush and Jane Aldred.
MIXED A TEAM
Sadly defeats to Deeping and Huntingdon meant winning the title wasn’t an option and we finished a very respectable 3rd in Division one. A special thank you goes to Gennaro and Rachael for playing almost every match.
MIXED C TEAM
After a shaky start the team rallied and went on to win all but one of the remaining matches with a draw against local rivals Ketton. This has resulted in the team finishing top of the league so gaining promotion to Division 3 next season. Particular thanks to Felicity, Susie and Susanne who anchored the teams and kept the “gentlemen” players in order.
HUNTS & PETERBOROUGH LEAGUE DON BRACE CUP
While we were knocked out in the first round by Huntingdon, we went on to win the Plate with a convincing win over City of Peterborough in the Final. Thank you to everyone that played in the various rounds leading up to the Final.
PETERBOROUGH WINTER LEAGUE 2010/11
We have entered two teams to play in the Sunday morning Winter Leagues.
The A team will play in Div 1, contacts: Mark Pallister or Shay Ginat
The B team will play in Div 2. If you would like to captain this team please contact Neville Burnett who will organise the team in the first instance.
There are 6 teams in each of the divisions with 5 matches played before Christmas and the return matches played Jan/Feb 2011.
Please let the captains know if you would like to play so squads can be determined and teams can be selected to give everyone a game.
The leagues will start on October 10th with all matches starting at 10.00 am
